Description
Detecting inside the house is fine; detecting before anyone gets in is better. This detector mounts outside and warns you while someone is crossing the garden, not once they are in the living room. That is the difference between reacting and arriving late.
What makes it dependable outdoors is that it carries two PIR sensors instead of one: the alarm only fires when both agree, so a moving branch or a sudden temperature change does not cause a scene at three in the morning. It covers 15 metres at 90°, has three sensitivity levels, pet immunity up to 80 cm tall — the cat passes, a person does not — anti-masking to detect attempts to cover it, and an anti-tamper switch. Rated IP54, −25 to 60 °C. Two pre-installed CR123A batteries, around five years.
How we install it. Outdoors, and the height is not a free choice: the listing specifies 0.8 to 1.3 m off the ground, far lower than people expect. That height is exactly what lets it catch a crouching person while keeping the whole garden out of frame. It is aimed parallel to the façade or across the approach path, never at the street or the neighbour’s property — that is a privacy problem too — and away from sprinklers and air-conditioning units. It is registered by QR and we check the signal from the exact spot before fixing it.
If you also want to see what came in, the outdoor photo detector sends pictures. For a large plot, the panel is the Hub 2 Plus. Everything else is under Ajax outdoor detectors.
