Description
An ordinary motion detector tells you something moved. This one tells you what moved: it is a volumetric PIR with an HD camera that, when triggered, sends a burst of 1 to 5 photos to the app. And not only when triggered: the user can request a photo at any time, schedule one, or have it fire on arming and disarming, or when another detector in the system goes off.
It covers 15 metres at 90° horizontally, has three sensitivity levels and filters false alarms with the SmartDetect algorithm. Photos are sent at higher or lower resolution depending on the time available — from 160×128 in 3 seconds up to 864×720 in 15.5 — and at night they work thanks to infrared backlighting; HDR mode helps when one part of the scene is bright and another is dark. It is Grade 3, with Superior Jeweller and TurboWings on 868 MHz and up to 3,500 m of range, two tampers and anti-masking: it detects attempts to cover it. Four CR123A batteries, up to six years.
How we install it. Indoors, at the height Ajax specifies — the listing says 2.4 m — looking across the walkway everyone must use, never straight at a window, a fireplace or a radiator, which is what causes false alarms. It hangs on the SmartBracket, which locks with a screw, and is registered by QR in the app. Before we leave we run the detection-zone and signal tests, and set the photo request permissions with you: who can ask for pictures, and when. That part is privacy, not electronics, which is why it is decided with you.
For the version that really is outdoor-rated, the outdoor photo detector. For a large installation, the panel to run it is the Hub 2 Plus. Everything else is under Ajax indoor detectors.
