An 8-channel Ajax NVR and two 5-megapixel turret cameras: enough to cover the two entrances that actually matter, with six channels spare for the day you extend without touching what is already installed. The cameras run on PoE (802.3at) — a single network cable per camera carrying data and power together, so no sockets on the façade and no power supply at every point.
Five megapixels is not a number on a box: it is the difference between “someone walked past” and “it was him”. How far away a person can be recognised depends on where the camera goes, and that is decided on site, not on a spec sheet. At night infrared takes over, with a declared reach of 50 m. And because the recorder speaks ONVIF/RTSP, you can extend later with cameras from another brand without replacing it.
How we install it. The real work is cable and height: one network run from the recorder to each camera; the camera high enough to be out of reach and low enough for a face to fill the frame; and the low sun kept out of the lens — on the Costa del Sol a badly judged west-facing view burns the picture for half an hour a day. The recorder sits indoors, ventilated, with its disk fitted; we configure it, set the framing camera by camera and leave the app running on your phone.
The kit ships without a disk: storage is chosen separately, and continuous recording wants a surveillance-grade hard drive. If you would rather have a visored camera with more presence, the same kit exists with two bullet cameras. Individual cameras to extend are under Ajax outdoor cameras.
