Description
There are two ways to use a camera: nobody knows it is there, or it can be seen from the street. This kit is the second one. A bullet camera is long-bodied with a visor, recognisable from a distance, and it works before anything happens — half the value of a video system is the people who turn around. The visor also earns its keep on the coast: it shields the lens from winter rain and from the low afternoon sun.
In the box: an 8-channel NVR and two 5-megapixel cameras with infrared rated at 50 m, connected over PoE 802.3at — one network cable per camera, data and power together. The six spare channels are the part people notice too late: they are what lets you start with the entrance and the garage and add the pool or the side gate next year without changing the recorder. And since it speaks ONVIF/RTSP, the cameras you add need not be the same brand.
How we install it. Each camera needs its own network run back to the recorder — power travels down it, so no socket is needed at the camera — and a solid surface: wall, soffit or pole. A bullet is aimed precisely at one stretch (a fence line, a driveway), so fine-tuning the framing is half the job. The recorder stays indoors, ventilated, with its disk fitted and configured, and we leave phone access working before we go.
The disk is not included: continuous recording wants a surveillance hard drive. If you prefer something more discreet under a soffit, the same kit exists with two turret cameras. Standalone recorders, for when the system grows, are under Ajax NVR recorders.
