On the coast, a summer thunderstorm takes out more electronics than people think, and it almost always comes in through the network cable. This Reyee switch is one of the few at its price with 4 kV surge protection.
It has eight gigabit ports in a plastic casing, with 16 Gbps of capacity and a MAC table of 4,000 addresses. And it barely draws anything: 3.47 W maximum, less than a bedside lamp bulb.
- 4 kV of protection on the ports: the difference between replacing the switch and replacing the router and the cameras hanging off it.
- Eight 10/100/1000 Mbps ports with auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX.
- 124 × 60 × 24 mm and 270 g: it tucks behind furniture with no building work.
- External 5 V adapter, no fan and therefore no noise.
- Works from 0 to 40 °C.
Like the rest of this range, it gives no PoE and is unmanaged. If your house is in a storm-prone spot or the cable comes from an outbuilding, this is the eight-port we would recommend.
