Description
When the comms cupboard sits somewhere poorly ventilated — a loft, a closed cabinet, a small room — the casing stops being a detail. This Reyee switch has eight gigabit ports and a metal casing, which sheds heat better and takes a knock.
It moves 16 Gbps of switching capacity and holds a MAC table of 8,000 addresses: this is the one to fit when the network has plenty of devices — cameras, computers, televisions, access points — and not just four.
- Eight 10/100/1000 Mbps ports, all identical: no working out which is which.
- Auto-negotiation and Auto MDI/MDIX: whatever the cable type, it sorts itself out.
- 5 W maximum draw, on an external 5 V adapter.
- 160 × 75 × 24 mm: it fits on edge behind a cabinet.
- Works from 0 to 40 °C.
Two things it does not do: no PoE — cameras will need their own power or a PoE switch — and no management: no VLANs, no priorities. To extend a home or small-office network it is exactly right; if your installation needs more, we will say so. Against the plastic model with the same port count, what you pay for here is the metal box: lower temperatures inside a closed cupboard and better ageing.
