Description
This is the device that saves an old installation. Plenty of houses on the coast already have a wired alarm: detectors in place, cable run, and a fifteen-year-old panel nobody services any more. Ripping all that out means chasing walls, dust and building work. The expander takes up to 18 wired zones and brings them into a modern Ajax system over radio, without chasing a single wall.
It accepts detectors wired NO, NC, EOL, 2EOL and 3EOL, with end-of-line resistance configurable from 1 kΩ to 30 kΩ, and classifies each zone by event type: intrusion, fire, panic, gas, flood, tamper, fault. It powers the detectors through four 12 V outputs (1 A in total) and supports cable runs up to 400 m. It is Grade 3 over radio, with Superior Jeweller and Wings on 868 MHz, up to 3,500 m in open space, jamming detection and two tampers, front and rear.
How we install it. Indoors — Ajax explicitly forbids outdoor mounting — and fixed vertically: that is not about looks, it is that the tamper only works properly in that position. It runs off the mains and has room inside for a 12 V battery (4 or 7 Ah) that is not included. The fine work is the map: identifying which old detector hangs off each pair of wires, choosing the end-of-line resistor type, and testing zone by zone before calling the job done. It is registered by QR in the Ajax app like any other device.
