Description
This recorder has four built-in PoE ports, and that changes the whole installation: each camera connects with a single network cable carrying data and power from the recorder itself. No separate switch, no power supply on the façade, no hunting for a socket where there is none.
There is one number worth checking before buying that is almost never shown: the power budget. This model delivers 36 W in total across the four ports, with a maximum of 25.5 W per port. Four ordinary fixed cameras fit comfortably; a large PTZ with a heater can eat much of that budget on its own, and then it has to be powered separately. Otherwise it takes cameras up to 12 MP, compresses in Smart H.265+ / H.265 / Smart H.264+ / H.264, outputs 4K HDMI and 1080p VGA at once and works at 80 Mbps in and recording.
How we install it. It stays indoors, ventilated and hidden, powered at 53 V DC from its supply, drawing under 10 W by itself on top of whatever the PoE ports deliver. It has one SATA bay for a disk up to 20 TB. We first work out the cameras’ draw against the 36 W available, run one network cable per camera, fit the disk, register each channel and set retention and phone access.
If the cameras already power themselves, the equivalent without PoE is the DHI-NVR2104-4KS3. The cameras that go with it are under Dahua outdoor cameras. The disk is under hard drives.
