The Hub 2 is the panel we fit when the house cannot be left mute. The difference against the first-generation Hub is not the detectors — same devices, same 868 MHz Jeweller radio — it is the way out: this one has two SIM cards on top of the network cable. Lose the router, or lose one carrier, and the alert leaves through the other.
It handles up to 100 devices and 50 users, speaks Contact ID and SIA to a monitoring centre, has an anti-tamper switch and a backup battery good for up to 16 hours. It also raises the video ceiling: up to 25 IP cameras or recorder channels, against 10 on the original Hub. For a home with cameras, that is the practical reason to pick it.
How we install it. It goes indoors — Ajax does not allow outdoor mounting — on its SmartBracket, which carries a rear tamper and reports anyone pulling it off the wall. It needs a power point and, for the wired path, a network socket; both SIMs go in with their PIN disabled. We hang it where the radio reaches everything (away from metal cabinets, more than a metre from the router), add each device by scanning its QR in the Ajax app, and check signal strength detector by detector before we leave.
If one path out is enough for you, the first-generation Hub does the same over Ethernet and GPRS. If the house is large and one corner is out of radio reach, a signal repeater fixes it. All the panels together under Ajax alarm hubs.
