Who it’s for and who it’s not. This is the switch for an installation with many cameras and a communication cabinet: 16 gigabit PoE ports, plus two SFP and two RJ45 uplink ports, in a rack-mountable format. It’s not for a house with three cameras, where an eight-port switch is sufficient and takes up a tenth of the space.
What else is needed besides the box. Its declared power supply is an external power adapter of 100~240 V. The modules for the two SFP ports are chosen separately, depending on where the link comes from.
How to install it on the Costa del Sol. It is a rack equipment measuring 223 × 43.6 × 300 mm and weighing 3.1 kg, for indoor use and operating at temperatures from 0 °C to 40 °C: it requires a ventilated space and a nearby power outlet. How many cameras can be connected to it?
The 16 ports provide PoE and PoE+ (802.3af/at), but how many cameras it can support at the same time depends on the consumption of each one, and the total power distribution is not specified in the manufacturer’s datasheet. It should be calculated with the specific cameras before purchasing anything: we prefer to say this rather than give an invented number.
What are the two additional SFP ports and two RJ45 ports for?
They are uplink ports: traffic goes up to the router or another switch without taking a port away from the cameras. In total, the device handles 18 ports of 10/100/1000 Mbps.
Can the configuration be changed without going to the house?
Yes. It is managed via web, cloud, and application, so a network change or diagnosis does not require a visit.
