Eight channels are not a “just in case”. A house with grounds reaches eight cameras sooner than you would think: pedestrian gate, car gate, both side elevations, the pool, the kitchen door, the store room and the porch. On a four-channel recorder you have to choose, and choosing, in security, means leaving one side dark.
This 8-channel NVR takes IP cameras up to 8 megapixels (4K) and compresses in H.265+ / H.265 / H.264+ / H.264. That compression matters more here than on the four-channel model: eight cameras recording in 4K fill a disk fast, and H.265+ is what turns “four days of footage” into several weeks. It is ONVIF compatible, so camera brands can be mixed without being locked in, and it has room for one hard disk, chosen separately.
How we install it. Indoors, ventilated, with a socket, and hidden if possible: take the recorder and you take the recording. With eight cameras what has to be planned properly is the network — one cable run per camera back to wherever the recorder sits — and how the disk is shared out, deciding which cameras keep more days. We fit the disk, register each camera on its channel, set quality and retention, and test phone access from outside the house.
The disk is separate: see hard drives. If four cameras are enough, the equivalent is the 4-channel recorder. The cameras that go with it are under Hikvision outdoor cameras.
