Description
This is the part that stays inside the house: the screen where you see who is calling and open the door. It is the half of a video intercom nobody looks at when buying and everybody uses every day.
A 7″ capacitive TFT touchscreen at 1024×600, with an integrated processor and embedded Linux. It compresses video in H.264 and audio in G.711, and can record and take snapshots to an SD card: if someone rang while the house was empty, there is a record. And it does something many monitors do not: IP camera monitoring, so the same screen that opens the door also shows the garden cameras without reaching for a phone — handy for anyone who would rather not depend on an app. It accepts PoE power and has Wi-Fi.
How we install it. Indoors, surface-mounted, at eye level and on the route you take on the way out: hallway, kitchen or corridor. The clean install is a network cable from the switch, giving it data and power at once; Wi-Fi stays as the fallback when running cable would mean chasing a wall. We set up pairing with the door station, the door release, the network and phone access, and test the whole call before we leave.
