Description

This is the camera for a house that already has coax run through it. It is not an IP camera: it’s a 4-in-1, going out over BNC, with the format picked on a switch on the camera itself — HDTVI, HDCVI, AHD or CVBS — to match the recorder already in your cupboard. That’s the point: reuse old coax and lift it to 3K without cutting into walls.

And it does lift it: a true 3K (2960×1665) at 20 frames per second, a fixed 2.8 mm lens and 110° horizontal — the comfortable angle for a front door. What sets it apart from an ordinary analogue camera is ColorVu: it keeps the picture in colour at night, using white light instead of infrared. A blue coat looks blue, not grey. There’s also 20 m of IR for a discreet mode, and Smart Light, which lights up only on detection.

How we install it. Metal housing, IP67 and −40 to 60 °C, so it lives outdoors. But it does not run on PoE: it needs 12 V DC (3.9 W max), so besides the coax you have to bring power to the point — one more cable than on an IP install. First we check the existing coax: a tired cable or a hasty joint shows in the picture before any setting does. Then we set the format switch to match the recorder, adjust the framing, and decide with you whether the white light stays on Smart Light or off.

What it connects to. Recording it needs a recorder that accepts those formats, such as the 4-channel Hikvision 5-in-1 DVR, which has four BNC HDTVI/HDCVI/AHD/CVBS inputs. If you’re pulling fresh network cable, don’t buy this one — a 4 MP IP turret will serve you better. The rest are under Hikvision cameras.
