Five megapixels (2880 × 1620) is the resolution that covers most of a house properly. More resolution is not always the better decision: every extra megapixel takes disk space, and across several cameras recording at once that means fewer days of footage kept on the same disk. The practical rule: 8 MP where you need to identify at distance; 5 MP everywhere else.
It carries a fixed 2.8 mm lens at 100° to 110°, a progressive scan CMOS sensor and True WDR/HDR to balance bright and dark areas. Infrared to 50 metres, a built-in microphone, a microSD slot up to 256 GB for recording in the camera itself, AI functions and mTLS video encryption. IP65 rated, −25 to +40 °C: it works indoors and out.
How we install it. One network cable per camera to the recorder or switch, carrying data and power together: no sockets on the façade. Height is chosen balancing “out of reach” against “a face, not the top of a head”, and with a 2.8 mm lens — a wide view — the distance to the door decides how much detail is left of a person. It weighs nearly half a kilo, so it goes on solid surface. We finish by setting framing and recording camera by camera.
If that position needs a number plate read or a face recognised further away, step up to the 8 MP turret. The recorder is under Ajax NVR recorders, and the disk everything is kept on is the 2 TB surveillance hard drive.
